From the 1880s until the early 20th century a group of artists including Stanhope Forbes and his wife Elizabeth, Frank Bramley and Walter Langley, came together at the fishing village of Newlyn in Cornwall.  They did not form a school as such but rather a colony with shared ideas of the desire to study everyday life and natural light in the open air
