Memling’s beautifully balanced and serene paintings with their glowing colours represent the climax of art in late15th century Bruges.  His altarpieces were commissioned by patrons from London to Florence.  His work was captured by pirates and his portraits appear to speak to us.  His contribution to 15th century art, his patrons and contemporaries will be the subject of the study day.
