What is the definition of romanticism and why are Friedrich’s landscapes both so quintessential and so influential? Yet no artist could quite capture that same spirit of longing which they evoke, and which can also be experienced in the music of Schubert and the poetry of Goethe.  It is hoped that the study day will answer some of these questions.
